About Deep Thunking

What is Deep Thunking?

We’re a radically inclusive community where people come together to talk about technology. While tech is our primary focus, our true mission is creating a space where everyone belongs.

What is “Radical Inclusion?”

Radical inclusion is more than just passive acceptance; it’s a conscious decision you make in every interaction. We actively seek to include others by:

  • Explaining jargon so no one feels left out.
  • Documenting the basics and “things everyone knows” with care.
  • Honoring everyone’s unique experiences and skill levels, without judgment.

We’re not a group of “leet hacker doodz” or a “coders only” space. We’re a community that wants to make the world better, one little piece of technology at a time. We embody the spirit of Open Source Software (OSS) in everything we do, welcoming diverse perspectives and a collaborative mindset.

This sounds complex. I’m just an artist learning about drawing programs!

That’s exactly why you belong here. Whether you’ve been recompiling your own Linux kernel since 1998 or just started browsing Reddit, we want you to explore and discover what Deep Thunking is all about. We’re a digital safe space for anyone who is even the least bit curious about working with technology.

How do I join?

We ask that all members follow three simple principles:

  1. Be curious about technology. This means whatever “curious” means to you. If you want to learn, you’re in the right place.
  2. Be yourself. We want the real you, the person who is tired of hiding behind walls. Deep Thunking is a place to be authentic and explore who you want to be.
  3. Don’t be a jerk. We have a very low tolerance for bad behavior. Please check out our Community Code of Conduct to make sure you understand it.

If you’re ready to start your journey, join us on [Discord], explore our [Blog], or check out our [YouTube] channel. We can’t wait to meet you!

Lastly, don’t be a jerk. We know, we shouldn’t have to say it, but please, don’t be a jerk. If you aren’t sure what that means, check out our [Community Code of Conduct] and make sure you understand it. We’ve got a very low tolerance for jerks, and do our best to remove them from the community as soon as they reveal themselves. Don’t be one of the ones who missed out because you became a jerk!

If you’re still interested, come join us over on [Discord], check out the [Blog] or maybe peruse the [youtube] channel. We’re sure you’ll find something that piques your interest!
